Steven O. Galvan, 28, was taken into custody by county detectives on Wednesday, April 12, and charged with multiple felony offenses, including rape and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, said the District Attorney's Office.
The investigation began with a childline referral received by Reading police on Jan. 10, officials said. The alleged victim's mother told authorities that Galvan had abused her daughter when she was "approximately" 7, and said Galvan had "recently apologized" for the abuse.
Detectives conducted a forensic interview with the child, who told them Galvan sexually abused her at her Reading residence when she was 7 and 8 years old, between January 2019 and June 2021, officials wrote. Charges were formally filed on Tuesday, April 11, according to the release.
Galvan was set to be arraigned on Wednesday and his bail amount was not immediately available.
